FAQ — State Bank of India forex rates
What is the TT buying rate at State Bank of India?
The TT (telegraphic transfer) buying rate is what State Bank of India pays you per unit of foreign currency when it converts an inward remittance into rupees. Today it is ₹96.20 per USD (sheet dated 7 Oct 2026). It sits below the mid-market rate; the gap is the bank's margin on receiving money, which never appears as a fee line on your statement.
What is the TT selling rate at State Bank of India?
The TT selling rate is what State Bank of India charges per unit of foreign currency when you send money abroad by SWIFT wire. Today it is ₹97.05 per USD (sheet dated 7 Oct 2026). It sits above the mid-market rate; that margin is the biggest single cost of most bank remittances, ahead of commission, SWIFT charges and GST.
Why is State Bank of India's rate different from the Google rate?
Google shows the mid-market (interbank) rate, which no retail customer gets. State Bank of India publishes a card rate with a margin on each side — typically 1–2% at Indian banks. The "vs mid-market" table on this page computes today's margin live so you can see exactly how much the rate costs you on top of the visible fees.
How often does State Bank of India update its forex rates?
State Bank of India publishes a fresh card rate every forex working day, usually in the morning, and can revise it during the day when the market moves. RemitFee records the published rate on each refresh (sheet dated 7 Oct 2026) and keeps the history behind the trend charts; the rate applied to your transfer is the one in force at the moment of debit.
Are these the same rates State Bank of India uses for forex cards and cash?
No. TT rates apply to wire remittances (SWIFT / telegraphic transfer). Forex card loads, currency notes and traveller's cheques are quoted in separate columns of the same sheet and are usually worse for the customer. RemitFee shows the TT columns only, because they are what an outward or inward remittance is converted at.
Does GST apply to State Bank of India's exchange rate?
GST is not charged on the rate itself. Instead, 18% GST is levied on a notional currency-conversion value fixed by slab under CGST Rule 32(2)(b) — a few hundred rupees on a typical transfer — and it appears as a separate line on the State Bank of India charges page. The rate you see here is the gross conversion rate before that GST line.
Where do these State Bank of India rates come from?
From State Bank of India's own published sheet — SBI Forex Card Rates (PDF) (https://sbi.bank.in/documents/16012/1400784/FOREX_CARD_RATES.pdf), read on every refresh. All rates are shown per 1 unit of foreign currency. If a currency is missing on a given day, the previous day's value is kept rather than zeroed.
